Spicers Scenic Rim Trail EcoCamps 2013 -ongoing
Private facilities in National Parks in Queensland ...?! Conservation and protection versus interpretation, experience, appreciation and valuing. It works if its done by the right people for the right reasons.
We were invited to participate on Tony Charters and Associates team with The Spicers Group, in proposing low impact guided walks and camp/cabin facilities.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife haven't done this before. Their learning curve and the need to develop trust by doing the right thing and showing we know what msut be done and understand the issues (biological, physical, social, cultural, political, regulatory, experiential/educational etc.)
Sensitive, Globally (World Heritage listed Remnant Gwondwana/Subtropical Rainforest) and culturally (Native Title) significant.
A need to understand this landscape.
Integrated and simple buidings that can be built (the largest impacts) and managed and, maybe, removed with negligable impacts.
Fire. Rare and endangered species of Flora and Fauna.
Its a small project that has taken three years to clarify and find its form for everyone.
